  • Baltimore Orioles Release Jamie Moyer

Orioles release 49-year-old Moyer at his request - Yahoo! Sports

Well that didnt last long. LOL! Ok which team is up next.

BALTIMORE (AP) The Baltimore Orioles released 49-year-old Jamie Moyer on Saturday, parting ways with the crafty left-hander at his request.

Moyer started the season with Colorado, where he became the oldest pitcher to win a game in the big leagues. He went 2-5 before being designated for assignment by the Rockies on May 30.

Moyer subsequently signed a minor-league contract with Baltimore on June 6. The deal came with the stipulation that he would make three starts with Triple-A Norfolk, and after that the Orioles had to promote him or grant his release.

Following his third start Wednesday, the Orioles offered Moyer another start with the Tides. He instead opted to become a free agent.

Moyer went 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA over 16 innings at Norfolk. The Orioles liked what they saw, but the timing just wasn't right to add him to the rotation.

Hopefully he just retires. He doesn't help any team at the major league level.

shame is that he can still pitch if given the chance. I don't want him to retire, but not looking too good for him now.

For some reason"youngsters" don't think "older" guys can play. Jamie Moyer still pitches fairly well. In fact he pitches better than a lot of the young guys in MLB. They may have much more speed, but many don't have the control or logic of how to pitch. Personally, I'd rather have him than some wild "kid" pitch for me, plus he would be great to have to help the "younger" pitcher's.

Back to the "youngster's don't think..." Some of the "younger" guys (20's-late 30's) on the church softball team think that way about me. They use the excuse that if I pitch (we play slow pitch) I could get seriously injured or even killed with line drives. Yet they didn't complain when I pitched batting practice. Also, I've pitched 4 out of our 12 games. When we play we play doubleheaders. I've given up the fewest runs in a DH - 5, and we won 14-2 & 15-3. And when I bat I get on base about 1/2 the time (I'm not a power hitter, but I do make good contact). "Youngster's" beware, us "old" guys can STILL play.

Gladdy probably wants him retired just in case the Tigers decide to sign him. LOL!

With the Tigers pitching this season so far he'd be the 4th or 5th starter.

I'm not worried about that. He'd have no chance on this team, the pitching has been pretty good since April or so. Besides, if you have an ERA over 5 in the NL, you have no business pitching
