  • Ben Sheets Gets Win In Braves Debut

Sheets ends 2-year absence with win over Mets - Yahoo! Sports

He was a very solid starting pitcher when he was a Brewer for several years. Sadly the last 3 years has been plagued with injuries and seasons lost. Nice to see he pitched like his normal self today.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Ben Sheets pitched six scoreless innings in his first game in two years and the Atlanta Braves beat the New York Mets 6-1 on Sunday for their season-high seventh straight victory.

Sheets, unsigned after he missed all of 2011 following elbow ligament replacement surgery, escaped a jam in the third with runners on second and third when David Wright flew out to deep right.

Sheets threw 88 pitches, 57 for strikes. In his previous start two years ago, he lost 2-1 to Boston while pitching for Oakland.

Making his 242nd career start, Sheets improved to 91-92 and lowered his ERA to 3.77. Against the Mets, Sheets improved to 5-2 with a 4.05 ERA. The Braves purchased the former Milwaukee ace's contract from Double-A Mississippi before the game.

Sheets, Braves beat Hamels, Phillies, 6-1 - Yahoo! Sports

Geez he is 3-0 now and a 0.50 ERA.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Ben Sheets, signed to a minor league contract nearly four weeks ago, was sharp. Cole Hamels, who signed a $144 million deal two days ago, had the worst control of his career.

Brian McCann hit a three-run homer off Hamels, and Sheets continued his impressive comeback to lead the Atlanta Braves past the Philadelphia Phillies 6-1 on Friday night.

Sheets (3-0) won his third straight start, allowing one run and six hits with one walk and four strikeouts in six innings.

After missing all of last season while recovering from elbow surgery, Sheets signed the minor league deal on July 1 and had his contract purchased by the Braves on July 15.
