  • Miguel Cabrera's 3 RBI Helps the Tigers to a 6-5 Win

The Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees tonight 6-5.

The Yankees took a 2-0 lead in the 4th inning, but Miguel Cabrera responded in the bottom of the 4th inning with a solo home run; it's his 29th of the season. Brennan Boesch would go on to hit a single, and then scored on a Jhonny Peralta double and the Tigers tied the game 2-2.

The Tigers came back in the 5th inning with a single by Andy Dirks, then a single by Austin Jackson which advanced Dirks to 3rd base. Miguel Cabrera came up with 1 out and hit a double to score Dirks and Jackson and made it a 4-2 lead.

The Tigers added to their lead in the 6th inning after a single by Alex Avila who scored on a double by Andy Dirks and it gave the Tigers a 5-2 lead.

Rick Porcello pitched a good game tonight, but was pulled after giving up a run in the 7th inning. Porcello went 6 and 2/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 8 hits and striking out 3 batters; he earned his 9th win of the season.

Brayan Villarreal came in for relief and got the final out of the 7th inning.

Octavio Dotel came in and pitched a scoreless 8th inning.

The Tigers offense got going again in the 8th inning after a single by Delmon Young, walk to Alex Avila, then Andy Dirks hit a single to score Young and it gave the Tigers a 6-3 lead.

Jose Valverde came in and gave up 2 runs in the 9th inning, but got his 22nd save of the season, and was able to hold on to get the Tigers the win.

The Tigers play the 3rd game of a 4 game series with the Yankees tommorrow as Anibal Sanchez (6-8 3.99 ERA) takes on CC Sabathia (11-3 3.53 ERA).

    Miggy at it again.

Ok I have done a 180 and want Ajax back That .240 avg grandy is hitting just sticks out like a sore thumb.

I feel like I am reliving last year all over gain. If the Tigers did not have Valverde I would pick them to represent the AL over the Halos

Miggy is on fire. I'd still take Trout for MVP right now, but Miggy is making a great case.

Granderson is still taking his walks, but he strikes out too much to hit much higher than .260 or so, he does fit Yankee Stadium pretty well though.

Funny part with Valverde is he's arguably the worst pitcher in the bullpen, but is the closer. Villarreal who got the last out of the 7th inning has an ERA of like 1.30

Yeah he does. His hr's are normally no doubters though so not really taking advantage of the short porch

However too many K's and last night just needed a single. Come playoff times you need clutch run producing hits not bombs
