The Pirates have agreed to a contract with free agent catcher Russell Martin, reports FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal (via Twitter), pending Martin passing a physical. It is a two-year, $17MM contract, according to David Waldstein of the New York Times.

The fact that the Yankees did not match that offer has to be a precursor to a deal with A.J. Pierzynski or another better catcher. I wouldn't mind letting Russell Martin leave for the Bad A.J. (Burnett) if we got a good A.J. in return.
