  • Rangers Trade Michael Young to the Phillies

Phillies Acquire Michael Young: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

The Phillies have acquired Michael Young from the Rangers according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Young will receive $1.2MM in benefits in exchange for waiving his no-trade clause, but Nightengale says he told the Phillies he did not want an extension. The $1.2MM accounts for the state tax difference.

The Rangers have agreed to pay $10MM of the $16MM owed to Young next season according to Nightengale (on Twitter). Earlier today Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reported that Josh Lindblom and minor leaguer Lisalverto Bonilla would head to Texas in the trade, which MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan has confirmed.

Michael Young stinks, so good deal for the Rangers.

Gladdy, do you think the Rangers are dumping payroll , hoping to be able to keep Josh Hamilton?

Young is decent, but not the same player he was several seasons ago.

Nope, they just don't want him as a distraction probably (because he'd be a bench player for them), since they're paying $10 million of the $16 owed to him to leave.

This could be good for the Phillies, it depends on how Young deals with it.

I like the deal for the Phillies. They gave up nothing for him. He is a good clubhouse guy and he is not expected to come in and be a heart of the line up hitter. He could give Chooch some protection in the lower end of the lineup.

I hated seeing Young go, but numbers dont lie.. This was a good move for the Rangers it frees up playing time for Profar in addition to dumping some unneeded salary. Rangers need to trade for an SP and make some minor tweaks and the are back on top of the AL west!!
