Sources: Rays trade James Shields

Kansas City and Tampa Bay have agreed to a trade that will send pitchers James Shields and Wade Davis from the Rays to the Royals for top prospect Wil Myers, sources confirmed Sunday. Other players are involved in the trade, a source said, but they couldn't immediately be confirmed.

The teams laid the groundwork for a deal during last week's winter meetings in Nashville, and a source said the talks gained momentum over the weekend.

I heard Wil Myers is included in the deal. If so, the Rays are big winners.

According to some scouts Wil Myers is similiar to Hamilton in regard to skill set. Could pan out very well for the Rays.

I'm glad for both teams. I'm not sure what the fan base in KC thinks, but at least they have 2 legitimate starters for their team this year. Prospects sometimes pan out, sometimes don't. For the Royals, even when they do pan out, it is usually for another team.

The Rays picked up what seems to be a sure thing and that has to get the team and fan base excited.

I really like this for the Royals. Yes Wil Myers is supposed to be a stud. But, they got a very Good pitcher and a Good pitcher for him maybe more. The Royals needed pitching in the worst way and if the young hitters on the team step up they could contend for the Central. The Tigers will probably still win it but the Royals could push them.
