Fresh off of their first playoff appearance in 15 years, the Orioles have decided to keep their leadership structure in place for the foreseeable future. The team announced extensions for manager Buck Showalter and executive VP of baseball operations Dan Duquette through the 2018 season.

That's no more "nuts" than paying a player millions and millions and millions for 5, 10, 15 years into the future not knowing how good they'll be down the road, or if they'll be able to play, or have constant injuries and/or illness. It's IMPOSSIBLE to SEE the FUTURE in advance, but GOOD leadership surely is a key. It's a better BUY to get GOOD LEADERSHIP in place for years to come than to RISK millions on a players future years not knowing if he'll be OUT of the game the next time he takes the field. Looking at his past SHOWALTER is a good manager to secure for a while.

Yes. But I don't blame them, he has a good LEADERSHIP/managerial record. Much better than signing a player for an EXPENSIVE amount and not get your moneys worth, like A Rod. for 2013 - 25 or 26 million for LESS than 1/2 a season.
