  • Josh Hamilton: Rangers fans spoiled

To a degree he is kinda spot on..

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Former Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton said the Dallas-Fort Worth area is not a true baseball town, in an interview with the DFW CBS television station on Sunday.

"There are true baseball fans in Texas, but it's not a true baseball town," said Hamilton, who while with the Rangers was booed during the AL wild-card loss to Baltimore at the end of last season.

Hamilton, who signed a five-year, $125 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels this offseason, said that Dallas has "always been a football town."

He is right to a point, but the fans also feel he quit on them when he left for personal problems. Then when he came back he was struggling, so they have a right to boo.

With everything the fans put up with him as far as his personnel issues and then he leaves them? There is no loyalty in the sport, unfortunately I think that is long gone.

The Rangers didn't want him, they never even made an offer, what was he suppose to do?

I geuss if you don't get a legitimate offer you have to do what you have to do (by the way where are the Angels getting all this money?) but with the interviews I've seen he was rather disrespectful of the fans of Texas and that was what I was addressing. For some reason in my area of Central Iowa, baseball has been below the radar this year as far as spring training and trades. Is it like that any where else?

I agree with you on the loyalty. The days of Kaline, Puckett, Bench and other players staying with one team are long gone. Some of the owners (George) has made it into a business and that sucks.

Both players and management are at fault. MLB is a buisness and should be perceived that way I guess. I mean if I work at Mcdonalds for 7 bucks an hour and the Burger King across the street offers me 8, I'm leaving.

Anytime you invest millions of dollars into something, it becomes a business investment. I agree that there's no loyalty in sports anymore but it's the same way for normal everyday people too. Gone are the days when a person works 20-30 years for the same company then retires. Competition, the economy, an uncertain future drives many to earn the most money they can while they can. If that means going to work for the highest bidder then so be it.

Rangers fans buy the tickets, so they have the right to boo Hamilton. But they should be grateful that he helped take them to 2 consecutive World Series. On the other side, Hamilton should have been thankful for $125 million and kept his mouth shut about Texas and their fans. Not a lot of drug addicts make $25 million a year!

I'm with cornwell. Where the hell are the Angels getting all of this money? I heard next season they're resurrecting, robotically engineering and signing Babe Ruth. We have the technology.

On a side note, I think there should be some sort of massive charitable contribution made by any team that can afford to bring in Pujols one year and Hamilton the next. How is it 2013 and we're still 'working' on a cure for cancer? Yankees, I'm looking at you too. C'mon, man.

I think the television deal was the only way they could afford to sign Pujols last season. Plus the way the deal is structured, much of the money he won't get until later in the contract or even after retirement. What are they going to do when it comes time to offer Trout a contract?

They're gonna have to break one of his knees. That's the only way they're gonna be able to keep him in Anaheim, California, United States, Planet Earth, Milky Way.

I love the Rangers & loved watching the team the last 3 years but I'd trade 5 straight losing seasons for the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl again.

That being said, Hamilton just wore out his welcome here. Athletes here get a pass more often than not & are under tons less pressure to win than in NY or Boston but as long as you play hard you'll be adored. If you look at the Rangers HOF(as limited as it may be) you don't & hopefully won't ever see the likes of ARod or Teixeira in there while Rusty Greer, Kenny Rogers & Pudge are in there. Those guys competed day in & day out no matter what. Greer shortened his career by 5 yrs playing that way and the fans still love him for it.

What's scary is that even though he plays when he wants, he still puts up ridiculous numbers. Just think if he had the try & hustle of a Rusty Greer, Will Clark or a Kevin Youkilis.

Looking for mainly Cowboys, Andy Dalton
