Mets Add Small Piece to Outfield: Chris Young - WSJ.com
The Mets finally acquired a major-league player—but don't rush out to buy your tickets just yet.
In what they hope will be the first of several, splashier moves, the Mets came to terms Friday with free-agent outfielder Chris Young on a one-year contract worth $7.25 million, according to a person familiar with the negotiations. The deal will remain unofficial until Young, 30, passes a physical, which is tentatively scheduled for next week.
Young doesn't solve the Mets' fundamental problems, but he could serve as a low-risk, high-reward addition to an outfield desperate for production. He has averaged more than 20 home runs a season since 2007. Only departed outfielder Marlon Byrd reached the 20-homer plateau for the Mets in 2013.
