Free-agent shortstop Jhonny Peralta is headed to the St. Louis Cardinals, according to reports on Saturday night.
Peralta is expected to sign a four-year contract with the World Series runners-up, FoxSports.com reported. An earlier report from MLB.com put the deal's value at $52 million.
The 31-year-old spent the past four seasons with the Detroit Tigers after eight years with the Cleveland Indians.
Last season, Peralta hit .303 with 11 home runs and 55 RBIs in 107 games. He missed 50 games after he was suspended by Major League Baseball as part of the performance-enhancing drugs scandal involving a south Florida anti-aging clinic.
