The Miami Marlins have agreed to a one-year contract with free-agent infielder Rafael Furcal, according to a report by Fox Sports.
Furcal missed all of the 2013 season for the St. Louis Cardinals following Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.
According to the report, the Marlins plan to use Furcal as their everyday second baseman. The 36-year-old, whose primary position has been shortstop, has only appeared in 36 games at second base during his 13-year career.
The 2000 National League Rookie of the Year, Furcal is career .281 hitter with 113 homers, 585 RBIs and 314 stolen bases.
