  • USPS Prices hurting my hobby

    Hey All,

I know a few of you on here, and have been trading for a while on here (on and off). However I have a few problems:
    1. I'm in Canada
    2. I collect baseball (and there's not many Canadian baseball traders around)
    3. USPS is too expensive for my US traders to ship to me and its harder for them to justify the cost of trading with someone in Canada (and I don't blame them).

I'm trying to come up a solution so that I can continue with the hobby that I love. I've got a couple of idea's but I was wanting to run it by people here first to see what they thought, or if they have other solutions that I have thought of yet.

    1. Skewing the trade in favor of the US trader. I generally trade by BV, so maybe offsetting the trade to help offset the cost of the higher shipping.

    2. Using a 3rd party service that offers me a US postal address. There's a few of these around, and most of them require that I go across the border (I live in Vancouver so I'm pretty close) to pick up my items. I found a service today however that would re-ship the items to me (even allowing me to bundle several packages together in one to save on shipping). It's called ShipIto (http://www.shipito.com/) This service would be a higher expense to myself but I think it would be worth it to me.

    3. Simply send my traders the difference in the shipping price. However this seems like it could be problematic, so I would prefer to avoid this one.

I'm definitely leaning towards option 2, but would like to hear from others what you think. Has anyone used any of these 3rd party US address services? If I go with option 1 how far would I need to skew the trade to be fair?

I would value any input anyone has!

    Cheers,
    Tim

    How about:

    4. Move to the USA.

How much more expensive is it to ship to Canada? It seems that option 1 and 2 would be least problematic. Choosing an option would really depend on how much you trade though, no?

OP go with option #2 if you can't move to the U.S.. Personally I don't & won't ship outside the United States, I won't pay for it & frankly don't care.

Tim, I would say Option 1 is the best. I'd say that the amount could be hashed out between you and your trade partner before the trade is setup.

The ship to address gives me concerns but for you, not your trade partner. Especially if you can't pick up your packages on a regular schedule.

Ignore people who say "move to the U.S."

It was a merely a thought. I wasn't telling him to move.

Still collecting Frank Thomas in any uni and HoFer G/U & Auto's.

I do not trade nor buy at "eBay values", unless a card is so rare that it is unlisted.

Thanks for the input... This was really the way I was leaning, and after reading a little bit more about that delivery service, it seemed like it may end up being more headaches than its worth.

In my last few shipments to canada, the shipping is pretty unrealistic. A package that cost less than 2 bucks to ship in the US costs over 6 bucks to ship to Canada. I would say the best is to hash it out in the trade. I have made a couple of trades to Canada for cards I really want, but there isn't that much I can use to pay that much in shipping, since I am mostly a cheap-o low end trader. Anyway, would be interested to hear what you decide to do on this.

Collecting any Boston Sports (base, insert,GU,Auto) All Teams (Red Sox,Celtics,Patriots,Bruins)
                      Also collect UNH Football/Hockey cards
Also now collecting any cards including all dupes of all the following :
MLB : Brian Wilson (Giants, Dodgers), Chris Carpenter (Blue Jays, Cardinals), Sam Fuld (Rays), Mike Flanagan (Orioles, Blue Jays), Phil Plantier (Padres, Red Sox), Jeff Locke (Pirates)
NFL : Kendall Reyes (Chargers), Greg Landry (Lions), David Ball (Bears), Jerry Azumah (Bears), Dwayne Sabb (Patriots), Dan Kreider (Steelers), Ricky Santos (no pro cards)
                      NBA : Matt Bonner (Spurs)
NHL : Steve Leach, James VanRiemsDyk, Jason Krog, Eric Boguniecki, Andy Brickley, Ty Conklin, Kevin Dean, Rod Langway, Bryan Muir, Daniel Winnik
I unfortunately can no longer afford to trade outside the US. Even rates to Canada are way too high now!
