1996-The Phoenix Suns trade One of the "NBA's 50 Greatest Players" Charles Barkley, and a 1999 second round Draft pick to the Houston Rockets for 4 players, Robert Horry, Sam Cassell, Chucky Brown, and Mark Bryant, teaming up Barkley with fellow 50 Greatest Players Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler.

1954 - Indiana University and NBA star Quinn Buckner is born in Phoenix, Illinois.

1936 - The only man ever to score in triple-digits in an NBA game, Wilt Chamberlain, is born in Philadelphia.

August 22nd

1951 - The Harlem Globetrotters set a basketball attendance record, playing before 75,052 fans at Berlin's Olympic Stadium during their world tour.

August 23rd

2006 - Carmelo Anthony sets the US national team individual scoring record in an international game with 35 points against Italy in the FIBA World Championship tournament. This record was previously held by Kenny Anderson, who scored 34 points in a 1990 game.

August 24th

2008 - In the Beijing Olympics gold medal game, Team USA turns back a talented Spain team, 118-107. Dwyane Wade leads all scorers with 27. Argentina defeats Lithuania,87-75 to win the bronze medal.

August 25th

1965-Boston Celtic Bill Russell signed a contract as the NBA's highest paid player, making one dollar more than arch-rival Wilt Chamberlain.

August 26th

1934 - Hall of Fame player Tom Heinsohn is born in Jersey City, New Jersey. He played for and coached the Boston Celtics through some of their greatest seasons.

August 27th

1999 - In what was then the largest trade in NBA history, 11 players change teams. The Vancouver Grizzlies trade the rights to Steve Francis and Tony Massenburg to the Houston Rockets for Michael Dickerson, Othella Harrington, Antoine Carr, Brent Price, Houston's first-round draft pick in 2000, 2001 or 2002, and the Orlando Magic's 2000 second-round draft pick. Orlando traded Don MacLean to Houston, and received Lee Mayberry, Makhtar Ndiaye, Rodrick Rhodes and Michael Smith from Vancouver.
