2003 - Charlotte Bobcats owner Robert L. Johnson announces that Michael Jordan will not become an investor nor front office employee of the Charlotte Bobcats.

2006 - Prosecutors announce that they will not file charges against Latrell Sprewell related to an incident in which a woman accused him of choking her against her will while they had sex on his boat in Lake Michigan last week. Sprewell is seeking a restraining order against the the 21-year-old accuser, along with "civil remedies" against the woman.

1944 -Streetball legend Earl "the Goat" Manigault is born in Charleston, South Carolina.

September 8th

1970 - Controversial NBA player Latrell Sprewell is born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Setember 9th

2002 - The Chinese Basketball Association announces that Wang Zhizhi, the first Chinese player in the NBA, has been expelled from the Chinese national team because he remained in the U.S. after the conclusion of the NBA season, instead of returning to train with the national team. In 2006 he was allowed back onto the national team.

2000 - Following a long and successful, but controversial tenure, Indiana University Indiana University head coach Bobby Knight is asked to resign his post. Knight refuses and is fired.

1963 - One-time New York Knick swing-man Gerald Wilkins is born in Atlanta, Georgia.

September 12th

1984 - The Chicago Bulls sign their top draft pick (#3 overall), Michael Jordan.

September 13th

1951 - The NBA Tri-Cities Blackhawks move from Illinois to Wisconsin and are re-named the Milwaukee Hawks. The franchise now roosts in Atlanta.

1940 - Scrappy guard, successful coach and snappy dresser Larry Brown is born in Brooklyn, New York.

1982 - The Houston Rockets trade Moses Malone to the Philadelphia 76ers for Caldwell Jones and a 1983 first-round draft choice.

September 16th

1959 - Chicago is granted an NBA expansion franchise. The team is named "Packers" and they begin play with the 1961-62 season. After a lot of traveling and name changes the franchise would settle down as the Washington Wizards

2002 - Hall of Fame player Patrick Ewing announces his retirement after 17 seasons in the NBA, 15 of them with the New York Knicks.

1968 - Toni Kukoč, one of the first established European stars to become an NBA star, is born in Split, Yugoslavia.

1991 - The DeVos family purchase the Orlando Magic for $110 million from former majority owners Jim Hewitt and William DuPont III.
