  • Lakers Trade Sasha Vujacic To Nets

From Yahoo Sports. Great trade by the Lakers. They save money and get another veteran big guy that will help them. I wanted the Lakers to sign Joe Smith in the summer. Now if they can only trade Luke Walton to anyone.

Rockets, Nets, Lakers Agree On Trade

The New Jersey Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets have agreed in principle on a three-way trade that will send Terrence Williams(notes) to Houston, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic and a 2012 first-round pick from Houston will go to New Jersey. Nets forward Joe Smith will join the Lakers, who also will send their 2011 first-round pick to New Jersey. In an effort to create luxury-tax savings by trading Vujacic’s $5.5 million salary for Smith’s $1.35 million, the Lakers were willing to include their first-round pick.

Williams, the No. 11 pick in the 2009 draft, recently returned to the Nets after being demoted to the Development League for his frequent tardiness to New Jersey’s games and practices. He is averaging 6.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists this season.

Vujacic, 26, has averaged less than five minutes in 11 games this season. His role with the Lakers has gradually decreased since he signed his three-year contract prior to the 2008-09 season.

Smith, 35, has appeared in just four games for the Nets this season.

The Nets own five first-round draft picks in the next two years, including two of their own, the Lakers’ (2011), Golden State’s (2011) and Houston’s (2012).

The deal can’t be finalized until Wednesday, the first day Smith and other free agents who signed in the summer can be traded.

the nets win here- more draft picks, they shed a potential locker room cancer, and vujacic can play if given the chance. not a bad trade for the lakers either, although how much joe smith plays remains to be seen- i envision him taking the 3-5 minutes per game they are giving caracter.

If T-Will can shed his character issues, then this'll be a steal for Houston.

        Lakers get a steal here!

9.24M off the books and no more Sasha.... Joe Smith is better than Character and gives Gasol/Bynum time to rest

The Lakers ended up getting more in the deal than originally reported. They will also receive the draft rights to Sergei Lishchuk from Houston, Golden State's 2011 Second Round Pick, and Chicago's 2012 Second Round Pick from New Jersey.

Sergei Lishchuk will probably never come over to the NBA as he was drafted by Memphis back in 2004.

The Lakers also get a $5.48 million trade exception which they probably wont use, but at least the option is there just in case.

The 2 Second Round Picks and the Draft Rights can be used in future trades. Now lets hope they can get rid of Luke Walton somehow. If they have to trade Derrick Caracter, a future 1st Round Pick, whatever they got from New Jersey, and $3 million to get an expiring contract for Walton, they should jump on it.

In 2 years he'll either be traded or retire and join the Lakers coaching staff
