  • NBA Amnesty Cut Players Thread

Just getting this thread ready for when the NBA off season can begin and cuts can be made. I will update this thread whenever someone is cut.

Every NBA team can cut one player to get them off the salary cap, but they still have to pay them the full contract. Most teams will probably make use of the exception.

Some players that are most likely to be cut are:

    Luke Walton
    Gilbert Arenas
    Rashard Lewis
    Mike Miller
    Baron Davis
    Brendan Haywood
    Richard Hamilton
    Andris Biedrins
    Josh Childress

Feel free to comment on this thread or any of the moves.

      Nice, NBA is back!

It's great that we get Rashard off the books earlier.

If the Pistons dump Rip that'd be dumb with 1 year left on his deal. Rather pay Villanueva his money and not let it hurt the cap instead of wasting money for 3 more seasons

NBA free-agent buzz: Butler eyes Clips, Bulls - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

The agent for Rashard Lewis said the Washington Wizards told him they don’t plan to use the league’s amnesty clause on the forward.

Lewis is the NBA’s second highest-paid player, trailing only Kobe Bryant with a $21.1 million salary this season and $22.7 million in 2012-13. The proposed amnesty rule in the new labor agreement would allow the Wizards to waive Lewis and remove the money owed him from the team salary for cap and tax purposes.

Lewis averaged 11.7 points and 5.1 rebounds for Washington and Orlando last season.

“It’s not going to happen,” Dutt said. “I spoke to them [Wednesday] afternoon. They see him as a big part of what they hope to do going forward, not only as a player but a leader.”
Sorry Kenny. Wizards management must be crazy.

Pistons said they don't plan on cutting anyone

They better be just saying that right now and not mean it

Wow....2nd highest paid player in the ENTIRE NBA is Rashard Lewis? Man, his agent needs an award or something. The Wiz not using it on him is dumb.

Also heard the Blazers might use it on Brandon Roy, who could end up in Chicago. Would be a huge pickup for the Bulls, especially if he can get healthy.

Per RealGM. I dont get what the heck these teams are thinking. LOL!

During a 90-minute meeting on Monday, the Blazers have decided not to amnesty Brandon Roy.

Nate McMillan will even consider starting Roy.

The Blazers won't say that the decision not to amnesty Roy is permanent, but there is a clear change in their thinking.

First casualty - Richard Jefferson. After RJ opted out last season of his $13 million salary, I didnt get why the Spurs gave him a 4 year $39 million contract. LOL!

Proof that RJ made the right decision. Instead of making $13 mil for 1 year, he's getting $39 mil for 1 year!

Out of all the possible players, didn't expect Jefferson to be the first one to go lol.

                              Per RealGM,

Cavs will use their amnesty on Baron Davis. Nothing new here.
