  • Mavericks Sign Samuel Dalembert

    Y! SPORTS

The Dallas Mavericks have a new starting center.

ESPN Dallas reported early Wednesday evening that the Mavericks reached a verbal agreement with free-agent big man Samuel Dalembert, who projects to be Dallas' man in the middle.

Contract details still are being worked out, but Dalembert would replace Chris Kaman, who started at center last year for the Mavericks.

After losing out in the Dwight Howard chase and passing on Andrew Bynum and his questionable knees, the Mavericks set their sights on the 32-year-old, 6-foot-11 Dalembert.

Not known as an offensive threat, Dalembert averaged 6.7 points per game last season with the Milwaukee Bucks. During his 11-year career, Dalembert has averaged almost eight rebounds per game and nearly two blocks per contest.
