  • Clippers Trade Antawn Jamison To Hawks

Atlanta Hawks trade for veteran Antawn Jamison - ESPN Los Angeles

I always liked Jamison, but was ticked off when D'Antoni pissed him off so he left. He said he wanted to finish his career playing for his home team, so he will probably sign with the Bobcats next season.

The Los Angeles Clippers have traded veteran forward Antawn Jamison to the Atlanta Hawks.

In return, the Clippers got the draft rights to Cenk Akyol, a former second-round draft selection by the Hawks now playing in Turkey. The move also will save the Clippers more than $2 million in salary and luxury-tax savings and open a roster spot.

"That's more cap relief for the summer," Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. "Those are tough ones for me from a coaching standpoint to do a move that is not necessarily making your team better are difficult moves, but from a team standpoint it was the right thing to do because it gives us a little more cap relief."

The Hawks, who are ravaged by injuries and are on a seven-game losing streak, made the deal using a disabled player exception they got when they lost Al Horford for the season because of a shoulder injury.

Jamison is likely to work out a buyout with the Hawks, a source with knowledge of the situation told's Ramona Shelburne. The Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs both expressed interest in the veteran forward over the summer as he looked for a contender with whom to chase a first NBA title. He's also held in high regard by his former team, the Washington Wizards.

Jamison, a 15-year veteran, averaged 3.8 points and 2.5 rebounds for the Clippers this season.

Akyol, 26, was the 59th overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft. The 6-foot-6 guard from Turkey is a member of Galatasaray Liv Hospital of the Turkish Basketball League and is averaging 6.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 21.0 minutes.
