New Orleans Pelicans add guard Gal Mekel - ESPN

NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Pelicans have signed former Dallas Mavericks guard Gal Mekel.

The club, which announced the move Friday evening, says Mekel will be with the team and available to play in Saturday night's game against the Clippers in Los Angeles.

The 6-foot-3 Mekel appeared in 31 games last season with Dallas, averaging 2.4 points and two assists.

Mekel also played in all eight of Dallas exhibition games this preseason before being released.

Mekel played two seasons at Wichita State and then five seasons professionally in Israel before making his NBA debut last season. He won two Israeli Super League championships, one with Hapoel Gilboa Galil in 2010 and another with Maccabi Haifa in 2013. He was also named league MVP in 2011 and '13.
