Tyreke Evans of New Orleans Pelicans likely to miss rest of season due to surgery on right knee
After missing the past seven games to help alleviate pain from right knee tendinitis, New Orleans Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans will undergo surgery that is likely to cause him to miss the rest of the season, according to multiple reports.
Evans, a seven-year veteran, is scheduled to meet with specialists this week to finalize the details of his surgery, Yahoo! Sports' The Vertical reported.
The surgery will be Evans's third on his right knee since last May, The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.
For the past few weeks, Evans, 26, seemed on the cusp of returning to the lineup. On Feb. 1, as Evans was sidelined for a third consecutive game, coach Alvin Gentry predicted Evans was "probably not going to play," even as he stressed Evans probably was capable of playing through the pain.
The Pelicans announced Sunday, however, that Evans would be sidelined this week and would rehab the knee in the hope that he could return to the court sometime after the Feb. 12-14 All-Star break.
The Pelicans were expected by many to improve on last season's appearance as the Western Conference's eighth seed in the playoffs, but they have disappointed in 2015-16 with a 19-32 record.
Evans is New Orleans' third-leading scorer, averaging 15.2 points to go with 6.6 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game. He was the 2009-10 rookie of the year after being the No. 4 draft pick by the Sacramento Kings.
