  • Hornets Sign Roy Hibbert To 1 Year $5 Million

Roy Hibbert reportedly agrees to 1-year, $5 million deal with Hornets - SBNation.com

Roy Hibbert will be signing a contract with just his third NBA team when he heads to Charlotte on a 1-year, $5 million deal, according to Adrian Wajnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

The 29-year-old Hibbert was formerly with the Los Angeles Lakers and will be looking to reboot his career with the Hornets. Last season, he averaged just 5.9 points per game, the lowest in his career. The drop was a significant one compared to the year prior when he scored 10.6 points per game despite playing in 76 contests compared to this season’s 81. This past season he averaged just 4.9 rebounds, though he had 7.1 per game the season before.

Hibbert was first drafted by the Toronto Raptors as the 17th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. His rights were traded to the Indiana Pacers, who inked a contract with the center. He earned All-Star status in 2012 when he scored a career-high 12.8 points per game and hauled down 8.8 rebounds per game.

He was traded in 2015 to the Lakers, a team which struggled to a 17-65 record in 2015-16.

Hibbert’s move to Charlotte -- a team that went 48-34 last season -- will give him a chance to learn under Patrick Ewing, the team’s associate head coach, fellow Georgetown University alumnus and former All-Star center.
