College Football Question of this years leaders...

The question came from Amanda today and I wasn't certain what the answer was. I believe I know but thought it was best to run past you College experts. Here's the question...

University of Oregon is number 2 in ranking because they have won 12 games this year (12-0) and they are going to the BSU championships. The number 1 team is Auburn State because they have won 13 games (13-0). Why did they get an extra game?

So its my understanding its because in the PAC-10 there aren't as many teams that play each other as there are in the SEC. I have a hunch I'm way off here. Any help is greatly appreciate!

Because the SEC plays a championship game and the Pac10 doesnt.

Do you know why they wouldn't play a championship game by chance?

You have to have 2 divisions in the confrence to have a championship game, which requires having 12 teams, i believe the Pac10 will have a championship game next season

Bingo. Same thing with the Big Ten next year....unless you have (at least) 12 teams/2 divisions, you can't have a championship game.
