  • Lions rout Chargers 38-10 to clinch playoff spot

Lions rout Chargers 38-10 to clinch playoff spot - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

After a decade of losing, the Detroit Lions are in the playoffs.

And they made sure the San Diego Chargers are out.

With their fans chanting “PLAYOFFS” for the final minutes, Detroit got there for the first time since 1999 as Matthew Stafford threw three touchdown passes in the first half to beat the Chargers 38-10 Saturday. The only team to lose all 16 games in a season (2008), the Lions (10-5) have won three straight after a seven-game slump to earn a wild-card spot in the playoffs.

Following the game, coach Jim Schwartz and the players did a victory lap at Ford Field, high-fiving fans in the front row.

According to the Chargers (7-8), they will not be in the postseason for a second straight year after making it five times in a six-season stretch. And that might cost coach Norv Turner his job.

Congrats to the Lions. Stafford had a 'coming out party' of sorts today on a big stage.

Would Stafford have been in about 6th grade the last time they made the playoffs?

I think ESPN had a short segment listing things from the last time the Lions got in the playoffs and it said Stafford was 11 years old, lol.

'According to the Chargers'? As if the Chargers get to determine whether or not they'll be in the postseason? LOL

Norv should have gone a long time ago. This is what the Chargers get for firing Schottenheimer b/c all he did was get them to the playoffs. Now they have Norv who can't even get them there!

                That was impressive just sayin

Also whats is Norv's fascination with Tolbert.. More Matthews all the time. he is alright on the goal line but yesterday against a fast defense no way should he have been getting screen passes. He has no moves and could not get out of his own way down the stretch

Norv's time to go and Tolbert's can now be Mathews's backup
