  • Texans release WR/KR Jacoby Jones

    Texans released WR/KR Jacoby Jones.
The Texans shopped Jones hard during draft weekend, but predictably found no takers for his $3 million salary. Although the coaching staff had a soft spot for Jones, he wrote his ticket out of town with a mistake-filled game in the Texans' playoff loss at Baltimore. Rookies DeVier Posey and Keshawn Martin will likely vie for the No. 3 role in Houston. It will be interesting to see if the Ravens, who hosted similar player Ted Ginn on a free agent visit, kick Jones' tires as a return specialist. The Louisiana native could also draw a look from the Saints. Source: John McClain on Twitter May 1 - 4:50 PM

I had high hopes for Jones after his huge preseason, during his rookie year. It always seemed like he was running the wrong route or not paying attention.

I had a friend who also had high hopes for Jacoby. I never could see what he did in him. He barely could be called a slot man and get good stats in an offense where the target of Andre Johnson is on the other side. So them cutting him doesn't surprise me at all.

The Ravens reportedly signed WR/KR Jacoby Jones to a two-year, $7 million contract.
It's where we suspected Jones would end up all along, despite his postseason flop at Baltimore to end Houston's season. Carolina and Dallas were also interested. The Ravens had one of the least effective return games in the NFL last season, and Jones represents an immediate upgrade on David Reed and LaQuan Williams. Jones is also the favorite to take over as the No. 3 receiver, with Anquan Boldin moving inside in three-wide sets.
