  • Report: Harvin likely upset about contract

The St. Paul Pioneer Press believes one of the "situations" Percy Harvin is upset with is his contract.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport heard otherwise, but the Press says the "speculation" is Harvin wants an extension. Harvin is slated to make just $2.47 million over the final two years of his rookie deal. Whatever the issues are, coach Leslie Frazier says he's "not alarmed at all," and that it's "not something that can't be handled." We might not know for sure until the Vikings report to camp.

Percy Harvin has requested a trade from the Vikings, sources tell the Associated Press.
Harvin is scheduled to earn just $2.47 million in base salary over the next two seasons. He's also clashed with the coaches over playing time as he saw just 58 percent of the offensive snaps in 2011. Still, the Vikings are highly unlikely to grant a trade request even if Harvin follows through on his holdout threats. They'd never get equal value for one of the game's most versatile and explosive players. Suspended Jerome Simpson, Michael Jenkins and Devin Aromashodu are behind Harvin on the depth chart.

Vikings GM Rick Spielman stated adamantly Wednesday that the team is not interested in trading Percy Harvin.
"We have no interest at all in trading Percy Harvin," Spielman said. The Vikings simply shouldn't. Harvin is easily their top playmaker on offense with Adrian Peterson mending from a torn ACL and MCL, and he's young (24), cheap ($915,000), and a must-have for developing second-year signal caller Christian Ponder. Spielman should still expect to be inundated with phone calls about Harvin. He wants out, and there isn't a team in the league that couldn't use him.

Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, Profootballtalk.com reports that Percy Harvin's unhappiness in Minnesota is not contract related.
Harvin essentially tweeted confirmation of PFT's report on Wednesday evening. "I said I have issues to be worked out," Harvin wrote. "Money not at all being the problem. I've done everything asked and more." Harvin may be referring to his on-field role in Bill Musgrave's offense. He only played 58.4 percent of the Vikings' snaps in 2011, and was on the sideline for many red-zone packages.

Coach Leslie Frazier said Percy Harvin will practice Thursday.
Strange. Harvin skipped Wednesday's minicamp practice after requesting a trade out of Minnesota. He's also threatened to hold out of training camp, but still hasn't said exactly why. Now it appears that things have calmed down as he's back at the team facility and ready to work.

Percy Harvin suggested on his Twitter page Thursday afternoon that he has no plans to hold out of training camp.
"I'm really clueless on the crazy reports," wrote Harvin. "Had a great (practice) today ... To all my real fans and real Vikes fans see u at Mankato." The "crazy" reports weren't reports at all, rather beat writers transcribing Harvin's own muddled comments on the reasons for his unhappiness. Harvin had tweeted Wednesday night that he and coach Leslie Frazier are now "on the same page." Whether or not the soap opera is over, it's clear that both sides have decided it's best to remain silent for now.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says Percy Harvin won't necessarily be in for more touches this season.
"(His) snaps may go up," Frazier said. "Touches, I don't know about that. We want to keep him on the field more, but his style — he's a reckless guy and doesn't hold anything back. It's always goes 100 miles an hour. So you have to be careful about not overusing him." Harvin touched the ball on 139 of his 621 snaps last season. A desire for increased snaps was believed to be one of the reasons behind Harvin's now resolved minicamp episode.
