Coach Pat Shurmur announced Monday that rookie Brandon Weeden will begin the season as the Browns' starting quarterback.
There will no contrived "competition" with Colt McCoy, who surely remains on the trade block. For now, McCoy will compete with Seneca Wallace for backup duties. "There's no looking back," Shurmur said. The 28-year-old Weeden has arm strength and touch to spare, but rarely faced pressure in the pass-first Big 12. How he fares against the rush will be the most telling aspect of his preseason.
