  • Report: Revis seeking $16M/year on next deal

According to ESPN New York, Darrelle Revis is "believed" to be seeking $16 million annually and $60 million guaranteed on his next contract.
For perspective, Mario Williams signed a contract last March paying him $16 million per year but with "only" $50 million guaranteed. It made him the highest paid defensive player in league history. New Jets GM John Idzik met with his All-Pro cornerback on Friday, but was noncommittal on Revis' future at his introductory press conference, which speaks volumes. The Jets only have Revis signed through 2013. Mired in the worst salary cap situation in football, the Jets simply won't be able to pay the man.

One NFL general manager said the interest in Darrelle Revis is "one of the biggest potential trade markets for a player ever."
"There's a Revis gold rush forming," the GM said. According to CBS' Mike Freeman, the Jets are asking for a first- and second-round pick in exchange for Revis, which certainly wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility if he were healthy. It's a high price for a guy coming off a torn ACL. Teams that have been linked to Revis are the Patriots, Broncos, 49ers, Bills, Seahawks, and Packers, according to Freeman. You can rule out a trade with the division rival Patriots and Bills.

If I were the Rams and had all those picks stored up from the RGIII trade I would jump on this.

The New York Post reports the Jets had discussed trading Darrelle Revis before he suffered a torn ACL in Week 2.
The Post was informed that "more than one" GM reached out to the Jets and Revis' agents at the time. It's an indication that Revis hasn't been in the Jets' long-term plans for quite sometime now, though that can change with John Idzik now running the show, not Mike Tannebaum. Predictably, rival sources have come forward to tell the New York Daily News the Jets never shopped Revis before his injury. It's going to be an extremely long offseason in New York.
