  • Report: Osi Umenyiora headed to the Falcons

A source with knowledge of the situation tells Profootballtalk free agent Osi Umenyiora will sign with the Falcons.
"Atlanta is the place," the source said. Per PFT, the deal is expected to be finalized on Sunday or Monday. Umenyiora will replace John Abraham in Atlanta. At age 31, Umenyiora is 3 1/2 years younger than Abraham, though not quite as explosive off the edge. Umenyiora is capable of playing more snaps at this stage of their respective careers. We still expect Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff to prioritize defensive end in April's draft.

Falcons signed DE Osi Umenyiora, formerly of the Giants, to a two-year, $8.5 million contract.
Finally. This deal had been in the works for almost a week now, and contains another $3.5 million via incentives. The Dolphins made Umenyiora a contract offer, but he must've preferred the Falcons' chances of winning. The 31-year-old brings needed juice to Atlanta's pass rush, replacing John Abraham. GM Thomas Dimitroff still needs to be on the lookout for edge rushers. At this point, Umenyiora and Kroy Biermann are the Falcons' starting ends. Osi recorded 43 tackles and six sacks last season, but struggled mightily versus the run.
