1st round tender

What does this mean?

I noticed several teams have placed there first-round "tender" on a certain player...

Can someone clear this up?

you tender prospective free agents- if the player signs with a different team, that team gives you a 1st round draft pick as compensation

^^yeah, what he said. You can see it happen on Madden football. I also believe there are three others levels of tenders.

Thanks, had never heard of that before...the broncos did first round tender on Orton, Marshall, and Dumervill and 3rd round tender on Dumervill again
