Seahawks send QB to Browns
The Seattle Seahawks have traded quarterback Seneca Wallace to the Cleveland Browns for a 2011 undisclosed draft choice, the Seahawks announced.
"This will give Seneca a chance for a fresh start," said general manager John Schneider. "The Browns front office's familiarity with his abilities will give him an opportunity to compete for playing time. We wish him nothing but the best."
Wallace was drafted by Seattle in the fourth round in the 2003. He played in 46 career games with 14 starts, throwing for 3,530 yards on 332 for 555 passing, with 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions for an 83.2 passer rating. He also caught four passes for 76 yards and rushed 54 times for 214 yards.
Wallace is now one of four quarterbacks on Cleveland's 80-man roster. However, it's believed the Browns will release Derek Anderson before his roster bonus is due on March 19 if they aren't able to trade him.
It's also not out of the question that the Browns line up Wallace some at receiver since they are light on depth at the position.
The Seahawks now have just two quarterbacks on their roster. Sources told Scout.com that the team is expected to pay veteran QB Matt Hasselbeck his $1 million roster bonus which is due Thursday.
Eagles send WR Brown to Bucs
The Philadelphia Eagles have traded veteran WR Reggie Brown to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a 2011 sixth-round pick, the Buccaneers announced.
Brown was selected in the second round (35th overall) of the 2005 draft by the Eagles and has played in 72 games with 45 starts for Philadelphia. Brown has totaled 177 receptions for 2,574 yards and 17 touchdowns and 11 career rushes for 68 yards and one touchdown.
Brown posted a career-high 61 catches for 780 yards and four touchdowns in 2007. He notched a career-best eight touchdown receptions and a career-high 816 receiving yards in 2006 on 46 receptions. In 2005, Brown led all rookie wide receivers in receiving yards (571), ranked second in receptions (43) and third in receiving touchdowns (four).
Brown has five years left on his contract and carries a base salary of $1 million for 2010.
Philadelphia looked to trade him last season, but couldn't absorb the $3.5 million accelerated bonus proration that would have come along with the move. Without a salary cap to deal with in 2010, the move became easier to complete.
Brown will get a chance to compete for a starting job this season with the Buccaneers. With the Eagles, he would have been no better than No. 4 on the depth chart at receiver.
Raiders dump WR Walker, DE Ellis
The Oakland Raiders released wide receiver Javon Walker and defensive end Greg Ellis on Monday in their latest dumping of veteran players.
The moves follow Saturday's decision to cut ties with longtime running back Justin Fargas.
Walker was a disappointment right from the start after signing a $55 million contract that included an $11 million signing bonus two years ago. Full story ...
Veteran OT Green joins Bills
An expensive steak dinner he couldn't finish and an offer he couldn't refuse were enough to persuade veteran offensive tackle Cornell Green to sign with the Buffalo Bills.
A night after being wined and dined by the Bills, Green signed a three-year contract on Monday, the team's first addition three days into the NFL's free-agency period.
Listed at 6 feet 6 and 315 pounds, Green said he has been told he'll be the team's new starting right tackle, taking over the position after Brad Butler retired last month. Green is a 10-year NFL veteran who spent the past three seasons as the Oakland Raiders starting right tackle. Financial terms were not available.Full story ...

Third-year cornerback Chris Houston is now a Detroit Lion.
Atlanta has traded Houston to Detroit for a sixth-round draft choice and a swap of fifth-round picks, a source told FOXSports.com. The Falcons will move up 16 spots to the second overall fifth-round selection.
Houston started 10 games for the Falcons last season and 37 of 48 overall contests since becoming a 2007 second-round selection. Houston, though, became expendable when Atlanta re-signed Brian Williams and added ex-Houston starter Dunta Robinson with a lucrative free-agent contract.
Detroit was seeking help in its secondary after releasing 2009 starter Phillip Buchanon. The Lions signed ex-St. Louis cornerback Jonathan Wade on Monday, according to profootballtalk.com and the Detroit Free-Press.
Colts cut starting guard
A new position coach isn’t the only change Indianapolis will have along its offensive line in 2010.
A source told FOXSports.com that the Colts have released fifth-year left guard and Super Bowl XLIV starter Ryan Lilja.
It’s believed the move was made so the Colts would avoid having to pay Lilja a scheduled $1.73 million roster bonus. Lilja, 28, was signed to a five-year, $19 million contract extension in the 2008 offseason.
The 6-foot-2, 290-pound Lilja missed the entire 2008 campaign with knee problems but rebounded to regain his starting spot and play every game for the Colts last season.
Colts president Bill Polian had expressed disappointment in his team’s offensive line after a 31-17 Super Bowl loss to New Orleans.
DT Robbins rejoins Spags in STL
The St. Louis Rams have signed free-agent DT Fred Robbins, the team announced. It's believed to be a three-year deal.
Robbins (6-4, 325) entered the NFL in 2000 as a second-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings, where he played four seasons. He signed with the Giants in 2004 and spent six years there. Robbins, who is known as an accomplished run defender who can also press the pocket as a pass rusher, has recorded 28.5 career sacks. He was a Pro Bowl alternate in 2008.
Robbins, who played for Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo when both were with the New York Giants, will help beef up the interior of St. Louis' defensive line.
Lions retain OT Backus
The Detroit Lions got off to a fast start in free agency last week. They signed WR Nate Burleson and DE Kyle Vanden Bosch, acquired DT Corey Williams, and released DT Grady Jackson and CB Phillip Buchanon.
And it appears a key member of their offensive line will return for his 10th season with the club.
A league source told Scout.com that the team has picked up a $1 million roster bonus on starting OLT Jeff Backus. Backus, who was selected in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the Lions, will also earn $4.95 million in base salary for 2010.
Browns guard to hit Arizona
Cleveland guard Rex Hadnot is set to take his second free-agent visit of the offseason.
A source told FOXSports.com that Hadnot will meet Tuesday and Wednesday with the Arizona Cardinals.
The 6-2, 320-pound Hadnot started 21 games the past two years in Cleveland. Hadnot, 28, spent his first four seasons with Miami.
Hadnot took a weekend free-agent visit to Denver but didn’t sign.
Both of Arizona’s starting guards (Reggie Wells and Deuce Lutui) are under contract, but the Cardinals are letting top backup Jeremy Bridges test the free-agent market.
Saints making play for Rams DE
The rich may get richer and the poor even poorer if New Orleans successful completes its first free-agent conquest of the offseason.
A source told FOXSports.com that the Saints will host St. Louis defensive end Leonard Little on a visit Wednesday and Thursday.
The 35-year-old Little has played with the lowly Rams for all 12 of his NFL seasons. Little started 13 games last season and had 6.5 sacks on a 1-15 squad. He has 87.5 career sacks.

The Philadelphia Eagles and wide receiver Jason Avant agreed on a five-year contract Monday.
Avant was a restricted free agent. He had a career-best 41 receptions for 587 yards and three touchdowns last season as Philadelphia's slot receiver.
"Jason Avant has developed into one of our most dependable and productive players on offense," coach Andy Reid said.
