  • Bears Waive Santonio Holmes

Wide receiver Santonio Holmes waived by Chicago Bears - ESPN Chicago

The Chicago Bears made a few roster moves on Tuesday, one of which involved waiving veteran receiver Santonio Holmes.

The club also signed receiver Rashad Lawrence to the practice squad and terminated the practice-squad contract of linebacker Terrell Manning.

Signed in August after a workout at Halas Hall as a potential replacement for then-injured second-year receiver Marquess Wilson, Holmes caught eight passes for 67 yards with the Bears and returned nine punts for 50 yards.

The MVP of Super Bowl XLIII has caught 389 passes for 6,030 yards and 36 touchdowns over nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers (2006-09), New York Jets (2010-13) and Bears.

Before joining the Bears, Holmes was coming off a season with the Jets in which he caught 23 passes for 456 yards and a touchdown in 11 games.

Holmes' departure means Wilson is closer to returning to the lineup, and the expectation is he'll be able to play Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. On Nov. 5, the Bears (3-6) put Wilson through his first practice since he suffered a fractured clavicle during training camp. Once a player on short-term injured reserve hits the practice field, the club has 21 days to activate him or shut him down for the remainder of the season.

Manning played in three games for the Bears this season.

I agree that Wilson will be back soon. Holmes was finished.
