  • Pats steal edge rusher Sheard on 2-year deal

Patriots signed DE/OLB Jabaal Sheard to a two-year, $11 million contract with $5.5 million guaranteed.
The Pats were high on Sheard in the 2011 draft, and now they have him to enhance a pass rush that generated 40 sacks last season. Sheard stumbled as an outside linebacker in the Browns' 2014 defense, but has typically had success with his hand in the dirt, and isn't even 26 years old yet. Coach Bill Belichick should put him in the best position to succeed. ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss believes Sheard could be a three-down player. Sheard's best position has always been base 4-3 end, so this move may hint at the Patriots playing more 4-3, particularly after losing Vince Wilfork.
