  • Today's funny fishing story.

Today started off as a crappy day. Lots of wind and rain, and today was my day to get out of the house. So a couple buddies and I hung around the house waiting for it to clear up. We talked about tales of people catching some 20+ inch walleyes on this river near us with hook and worm. So we decided to try it out. The rain stopped, so we left.

So we get there, and the river is high because of the rain we got in the last 12 hours. We casted out, and no bites whatsoever. We did see a bunch of fish jumping out of the river, but nothing would bite. It was too windy and the river was too swift.

My buddy went down river a little bit to try a different spot. 20-30 minutes go by, and all of a sudden we hear a lot of cussing. He runs over to grab the long net, and says his fishing pole is gone. We get over there to investigate with him.

Well his Y-stick was bent over flat, and his pole went into the water. He turned his back to take a leak, and something big bit his bait and took his pole.

So we tried for 15 minutes or so, and we could not retrieve his pole. It was gone.

Finally, I casted my pole out as far as I could cast and almost casted across the river. At this point I'm thinking his pole is long gone, but I was trying for something big as I see fishing splashing out there. Next thing I know I see my pole bent over, and I started reeling in. I had a nice little battle going on, but soon enough I saw what I caught.

It was his fishing pole, I hooked it. My Buddy grabs his pole, unhooks me, and cleans all the weeds off of it, and then starts reeling in.

Guess whats on the other end of it?

Your right, a 24 inch sucker.. Catfish...

One of the biggest fish I ever caught, and it wasn't even on my line... lol

lol We threw it back, but it's a great story to tell.

When I was a kid my Dad took me fishing while we were on vacation in Florida. He told me to watch his pole and even tied it to his lawn chair. As he was taking a pee his pole (chair in tow) went flying into the ocean. It happened so fast that I didnt have time to react. He came back and saw his chair was gone along with his pole and all he said was, didnt I ask you to watch my pole.
