  • Two Million Dollar Winner....uses food stamps?

Does this story make anyone else mad?

(WJBK) - A mid-Michigan man who won $2 million on a Michigan lottery show is stilling receiving food stamps.

Leroy Fick of Bay County tells WNEM-TV he still uses his bridge card at stores despite winning a jackpot on "Make Me Rich!" last June. "I even called them and asked about the bridge card and (the Department of Human Services) said you can go ahead and keep it if you want to," said Fick.

According to Fick, he paid more than half of his winnings in taxes, leaving him about $850,000.

State Department of Human Services spokeswoman Gisgie Gendreau says under federal guidelines, if a person receives a lump-sum payment, the winnings are not counted as income.
Poor guy. After taxes he was left with $850,000.00, and according to federal guidelines he is still eligible to use his bridge card.

....and just saw the story on the local news that the store owner that reported him was upset because Fink was sitting out in the parking lot talking to friends and showing off his new convertible. (They did not say what type of car).

...and I am really confused with the federal guidelines.

.....if a person receives a lump-sum payment, the winnings are not counted as income.
NOT income? Then why did they take taxes out?

Heard on the news today that the Federal Agency that handles Welfare is "reviewing" the rules to determine if they need to be rewritten to avoid such controversy in the future.

          what?
