Eastern Conference Playoffs

Montreal and Pittsburg start off round 2 of the Eastern playoffs. Montreal jump off to a quick 1-0 lead, but run out of gas. Halak even seems to have a bit of a letdown after such a tough series. Pittsburg wins 6-3. Halak gets pulled after the 5th goal.

Pens up 1-0 in the series.

Game 1 between the Flyers and Bruins. Philly is without Jeff Carter and Simon Gagane. Savard is back for the Bruins. Unfortunately, Boston loses Sturm now to injury. Boston had a 4-2 lead with less than 1/2 a period left in the game. Philly scores 2 late goals to force overtime, and clearly outplaying the Bruins in the 3rd. The return of Savard was huge for the Bruins, not just for morale, but he scores the OT winner too. 5-4 Boston.

Halak is back! The Habs goalie plays stellar again and Montreal wins 3-1. The Pens PP was shut down and Cammalleri provided the offence with 2 goals, including batting the game winner out of the air. Series tied at 1-1. Crosby showing some frustration, smashing his stick.

The Pens clamp down and play tight defense instead of trying to score. They protect a 1-0 lead and add an empty netter. Series lead to Pittsburg 2-1.

Boston takes a commanding 3-0 lead in the series with a 4-1 win over the Flyers. If the Pens and Bruins make it to the conference finals, payback for the Savard hit could be served.

it's official, Montreal is the cinderella team of these playoffs. They beat the Pens 3-2. Halak was awesome again and the Habs were able to capitalize on their chances.

The series is tied 2-2! Against the defending Stanley Cup Champs! Montreal is going crazy! They believe!! It's best out of 3 now.

Philly has the lead going into 3rd, but can't hold it. Boston ties it in the last minute to force overtime. Simon Gagne plays his first game since breaking his foot in the NJ series, and scores the OT winner to avoid the sweep. 5-4 Flyers. Bruins still lead the series 3-1.

Montreal was the aggressor this game, outshooting the Pens. However Fleury turned everything aside except of 1 late in the game. Pens win 2-1, and take a 3-2 lead. It's do or die now for the Habs. They have nothing to lose. Halak again is playing stellar.

The Flyers lose Boucher, their goalie who has carried them thru the playoffs so far. But the Bruins aren't playing with any sort of intesity and the Flyers are playing desperate hockey. They win convincingly 4-0 to make the series 3-2 for the Bruins. Both teams are beating each other up badly.

The door was open for the Pens to finish off the Habs, and to wait for the team limping in from the Philly/Boston series. Habs were missing Hall Gill too who up to this point has shut down Ovechkin and Crosby. Spacek comes back early from his injury to fill in. Crosby finally scores in this series, in the 1st period to tied it at 1-1. Pens take the lead in the 2nd and appear to be in control. Habs have different ideas. They score 2 goals to go into the 3rd with a 3-2 lead. They add one more in the 3rd and the Pens can only get a late tally, but no more. Habs win 4-3. Bring on game 7!!

Been sick for the past week.

This week's updates:

Philly force game 7, after being down 3-0, with a chance to make history. Only 2 other teams have ever come back from being down 3-0, the last being almost 40 yrs ago.

In game 7, the Bruins jump to a quick 3-0 lead in the 1st period. But Philly keeps their composure and get 1 back before the end of the 1st. They add 2 in the 2nd to tie it up, with the tying goal being a bit of a fluke. It's down to the final period. Philly get the winner in the 3rd on a PP. An amazing comeback for the Flyer, not only being down 3-0 in the series, but 3-0 in game 7 too.

Habs come out flying in game 7, jump to a 4-0 lead and cruise to an easy 5-2 win. Another amazing cinderella story these playoffs. Crosby was totally dejected after the game. I think he was still in shock.

It's the bottom 2 teams in the East and the top 2 from the West left standing.

Eastern Conference Finals:

Flyers come out flying. Habs looked off from the rest. Flyers chase Halak after a 4-0 lead. Price comes in the 3rd, and lets in 2 more. 6-0 Philly. Game 1 to the Flyers.

Philly played the same as game 1 and the Habs had little success in scoring again, despite outshooting the Flyers. Another shutout for Leighton, 3-0. Flyers win both at home, take a 2-0 lead going to Montreal. If the Flyers sweep, watch out for the riots in Montreal!

Give credit to Jacques Martin. He made some adjustments and it worked. Habs dominated from beginning to end. They win 5-1. Pronger was a -3! If the Habs win another, it's a new series. Best of 3 then.

I'm going to be in Montreal for a wedding during Game 4. It's going to be crazy there. I can't go to the game, but I'll see if I can watch Game 5 at the Bell centre.
