Joe Gibbs Racing Crew Chiefs: Fines and Probation

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR announced Tuesday that the No. 11, No. 18 and No. 20 teams that compete in the Sprint Cup Series have been penalized for rule violations discovered during opening day inspection June 17 at Michigan International Speedway.

All three of the Joe Gibbs Racing cars were found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-J (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in an event does not conform to NASCAR rules detailed in Section 20 of the NASCAR rule book, or has not been approved by NASCAR prior to the event); and 20-5.5.4A (oil pan, failure to submit component) of the 2011 Sprint Cup Series Rule Book.

As a result, the three crew chiefs -- Mike Ford (No. 11 car), Dave Rogers (No. 18 car) and Greg Zipadelli (No. 20 car) have been fined $50,000 each and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31. In addition, all three car chiefs -- Chris Gillin (No. 11 car), Wesley Sherrill (No. 18 car) and Jason Shapiro (No. 20 car) along with senior vice president of racing operations Jimmy Makar have been placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.

So no more bending the rules errr trying to get one by Nascar. Kyles Crew Chief already on thin ice for his prior issues to give an advantage just this year.
This is not the 1st time JGR has been in trouble. Back in 2008 they had real rule perception issues when 7 jgr employees were suspended for manipulating horsepower. Organization no doubt has some issues and it really taints their success

I honestly think this is the first year in many years that Rob-Me's name hasn't been mentioned by NASCAR at least every other race for infractions.

All teams have problems, but with Kyle involved it sticks out like a sore thumb.

JGR brought this on themselves...how hard is to say "hey NASCAR!....we want to use these...can you look at them?"

Now EVERYONE in the garage area has seen the oil pans and sooner or later someone is going to submit it to NASCAR for approval. Wake up Joe! Submit it before someone else takes credit!

Robby Gordon is small time with no sponsorship and tiny budget compared to this enterprise that has repeated issues. Although some say in the garage "if you aint cheatin you aint tryin" No doubt JGR is tryin

It wasn't approved by NASCAR and was NOT used during the race....so you can't call it cheating....and here's something to think about.... it was caught this race.... makes me wonder if it was used earlier this year...or maybe last year and NOT caught?

Not sure how it really works in the garages, but.....I work for a sign company and unless I have permits in hand....the signs don't go up!....so....why didn't anyone in JGRs garage say "hey boss!..these are different..were these approved?" I can't believe that the techies in the garage don't know the rules.
