NASCAR put themselves in a corner with the 'take the gloves off and have at it' approach. There's no way they could have suspended him for any amount of races, or they would've lost all credibility. Probation is a joke anyways, it doesn't mean anything....so I don't really agree with that 'punishment'. I think a fine would have been the best route, if they were gonna penalize him at all.
I think most if not everyone knows he wasnt try to injure or kill him, NASCAR just has a car that goes in air when going that fast. He shouldnt of done it and should be steeper reprocussions, but if we do it for one, we do it for all, therefore lets park every driver and have the pace car win the race.
