  • Blog Trade #35: Baseball Card Breakdown

It's less than 2 weeks into the new year and I've already completed my first blog trade. At this pace, I should complete forty trades in 2014. Realistically, I'll be happy with ten to fifteen over the next 12 months.

The fact is... I'm terrible at trading for four simple reasons:

    1. My trade bait is unorganized.
    2. I don't have a lot of free time to reach out to other bloggers and work deals.
    3. I'm lazy.
    4. I get easily distracted and will often forget who I'm trading with.

Thankfully, Gavin over at Baseball Card Breakdown reached out to me after I showed an interest in his 2004 Topps Retiredautograph of Dennis Eckersley on one of his posts.

Here's what the card looked like when it arrived at my doorstep...

And here's what it looked like after I freed it from its holder...

I totally have a crush on this card. Everything about it is amazing... the on-card autograph, the card's simple design, the great action shot, and of course the old schoolTopps'logo.

In addition to the hall of fame autograph, he also included two of his very cool glow in the dark cards:

Unfortunately... either my camera or the cameraman himself sucks, because I couldn't capture a good shot of the glow in the dark action. So I guess you'll have to trust me when I say that they're pretty amazing and nice additions to my collection.

And finally... if that weren't enough, he also sent me a few extra cards for my Oakland A's and San Diego Padrescollections. Here are a few of my personal favorites:

Thanks Gavin for the awesome trade. The Eckersleyautograph is pretty sweet... but those two 1 of 1 signatures are just a wee bit sweeter.

    Happy Thursday and sayonara!

    Collecting autographs, game-used cards, & certain inserts/parallels of the following players/teams: Tony Gwynn/Padres, Kurt Suzuki/A's, Greg Maddux, Brett Favre/Packers, Steve Largent/Seahawks, Kobe Bryant/Lakers, & Devin Setoguchi/Sharks.

Nice Eck. I'm like you to some degree and then some... terrible trader because I'm unorganized, easily distracted, not a lot of free time and what free time I do have I prefer to laze around instead of actively pursue trades. Also happen to be live in the north bay, Vacaville specifically. Biggest difference is I don't blog and I don't get out of Solano County very often, much less the Vacaville/Fairfield city limits. Grew up in Hawaii and batboy'ed for the Hawaii Islanders when the Padres were the parent club. By the way, congratulation on the Islander team set acquisition; hated Gwynn during his SD State years, loved him as a Padre although he came through after I'd left the islands and I sometimes wish I had his Islanders issue. Fred Kuhaulua and my mom were cousins, another cousin Kala Ka'aihue was a bullpen catcher with the Islanders. I still remember Steve Fireovid, Dave Dravecky, Eric Show, Bill Almon, Tucker Ashford, Dave Roberts, Allan Wiggins, Broderick Perkins and a host of others as they were moving up or down the ranks... Toshi recommended I befriend you, meant to but laziness prevented me from initiating contact until now, if you ever find yourself up this way give me a call. PM me and I'll give you my contact information.

So much for the rambling message, meant to ask what's up with the red 1/1 autos and notations? Who's sig is it supposed to be?
