It's not possible for all members on this forum to go to our local hobby shop and walk out with a hobby box everyday. Although if I ever win the lotto, that definitely would be me! Ah, yes, and my wife, Mrs. Toshi the Luck & RGIII collector.
Until then, I'm always in the hunt for a great deal. I've told Mrs. Toshi that I'm saving for a 2012 Panini Black hobby box, she agrees yet, she continues to do the opposite! While she shops for groceries to stock up for home, I'll hang out at the sports card aisle and browse until Mrs. Toshi comes by to pick me up. She'll see what would be catching my fancy and grab the product and pay for it before I can say a word. I don't complain, yet lately, I'm wondering if I'll ever get my Panini Black?
Now, there are times when we all come across a great deal. Whether it be on a household item or our favorite hobby purchase, in this case "Football Cards"! "A Deal is a Deal"! As many of you know, I'm probably on this forum 24/7. The other 24/7 activity is at our local hobby shop or Walmart. So it was a nice surprise for the both of us that we visited K-Mart the other day. They tend to carry cards that are several years old. This can be a benefit, as I went through the various football cards, at the top of the shelf was a 2007 Donruss Score box of 440 cards. Now the price tag on it described it as a buy now for $39.99! When I brought the box down, on the opposite side of the box, the price tag read; "Discounted Price $19.99 50% off". Mrs. Toshi payed for it, and we left to go to Target.
Once there, my routine as usual, is the same. Off goes Mrs. Toshi, I'm left browsing the sports card aisle. While there, I usually look in the very back of the shelf. People or Target associates tend to restock and or push the products to the rear of the shelf. To my surprise I found a 2011 Topps Rising Rookie Blaster Box. The original price was $19.99, a normal cost associated with blaster boxes at retail outlets. On the opposite side of the box it read; "Buy Now at $11.99"! By the Magic cards, a card collectors binder by All-Pro with the 9 page card holders (Of Which was filled with 50 pages) was on sale for $10.00. please note that this would be my very first binder, my collection rests in penny sleeves, then they go into top loaders, then a white double row cardboard box. If it is a hit? It goes into a one touch magnetic case, then into my double row box. Mrs. Toshi grabs the blaster box and the binder, pays at the cashier and we are off to our humble abode. "A Deal is a Deal"!
Well, the 2007 Donruss Score was no surprise. It had the usual base cards of veterans and rookies. I joyously placed the inexpensive Score cards into my new and very first inexpensive card collectors binder. Now comes the blaster box. Once opened, I pulled the usual suspect cards of veterans and rookies. What was surprising and extremely odd was the unmarked, plain silver foil pack. I've read about these packs as they are called box toppers. I thought box toppers come in hobby only boxes and are hobby exclusives. I'm glad that it was not the case as far as this 2011 Topps products was. Once opened, I pulled a very, very odd Team Logo Patch. It was a Julio Jones rookie card with a St. Louis Rams Manufactured Team Logo Patch. My wife loved it, and said it was really cool. So that was that! Or was it?
Well, I'm still new to this hobby as well as football as a sport. I know that I have some minimal knowledge pertaining to the hobby and sport. Matt Ryan is one of my favorite players that I enjoy collecting as well as watching him lead the Atlanta Falcons to the post season. "Matty Ice" is in my top 10 favorite players collected as well as the key players on the team. So, WHY is Julio Jones depicted as a rookie with a St. Louis Rams Team Logo Patch? So I ask this question to my fellow members of CCW! Maybe someone could enlighten me on this odd situation? I was able to look it up on Beckett, BV is $15.00. But that's as much as I know at this time! Oh well, enjoy your weekend, I sure will with my oddity!
