  • "A Deal is a Deal"

It's not possible for all members on this forum to go to our local hobby shop and walk out with a hobby box everyday. Although if I ever win the lotto, that definitely would be me! Ah, yes, and my wife, Mrs. Toshi the Luck & RGIII collector.

Until then, I'm always in the hunt for a great deal. I've told Mrs. Toshi that I'm saving for a 2012 Panini Black hobby box, she agrees yet, she continues to do the opposite! While she shops for groceries to stock up for home, I'll hang out at the sports card aisle and browse until Mrs. Toshi comes by to pick me up. She'll see what would be catching my fancy and grab the product and pay for it before I can say a word. I don't complain, yet lately, I'm wondering if I'll ever get my Panini Black?

Now, there are times when we all come across a great deal. Whether it be on a household item or our favorite hobby purchase, in this case "Football Cards"! "A Deal is a Deal"! As many of you know, I'm probably on this forum 24/7. The other 24/7 activity is at our local hobby shop or Walmart. So it was a nice surprise for the both of us that we visited K-Mart the other day. They tend to carry cards that are several years old. This can be a benefit, as I went through the various football cards, at the top of the shelf was a 2007 Donruss Score box of 440 cards. Now the price tag on it described it as a buy now for $39.99! When I brought the box down, on the opposite side of the box, the price tag read; "Discounted Price $19.99 50% off". Mrs. Toshi payed for it, and we left to go to Target.

Once there, my routine as usual, is the same. Off goes Mrs. Toshi, I'm left browsing the sports card aisle. While there, I usually look in the very back of the shelf. People or Target associates tend to restock and or push the products to the rear of the shelf. To my surprise I found a 2011 Topps Rising Rookie Blaster Box. The original price was $19.99, a normal cost associated with blaster boxes at retail outlets. On the opposite side of the box it read; "Buy Now at $11.99"! By the Magic cards, a card collectors binder by All-Pro with the 9 page card holders (Of Which was filled with 50 pages) was on sale for $10.00. please note that this would be my very first binder, my collection rests in penny sleeves, then they go into top loaders, then a white double row cardboard box. If it is a hit? It goes into a one touch magnetic case, then into my double row box. Mrs. Toshi grabs the blaster box and the binder, pays at the cashier and we are off to our humble abode. "A Deal is a Deal"!

Well, the 2007 Donruss Score was no surprise. It had the usual base cards of veterans and rookies. I joyously placed the inexpensive Score cards into my new and very first inexpensive card collectors binder. Now comes the blaster box. Once opened, I pulled the usual suspect cards of veterans and rookies. What was surprising and extremely odd was the unmarked, plain silver foil pack. I've read about these packs as they are called box toppers. I thought box toppers come in hobby only boxes and are hobby exclusives. I'm glad that it was not the case as far as this 2011 Topps products was. Once opened, I pulled a very, very odd Team Logo Patch. It was a Julio Jones rookie card with a St. Louis Rams Manufactured Team Logo Patch. My wife loved it, and said it was really cool. So that was that! Or was it?

Well, I'm still new to this hobby as well as football as a sport. I know that I have some minimal knowledge pertaining to the hobby and sport. Matt Ryan is one of my favorite players that I enjoy collecting as well as watching him lead the Atlanta Falcons to the post season. "Matty Ice" is in my top 10 favorite players collected as well as the key players on the team. So, WHY is Julio Jones depicted as a rookie with a St. Louis Rams Team Logo Patch? So I ask this question to my fellow members of CCW! Maybe someone could enlighten me on this odd situation? I was able to look it up on Beckett, BV is $15.00. But that's as much as I know at this time! Oh well, enjoy your weekend, I sure will with my oddity!

I am easy, I collect any and all NFL cards. Individual players I really enjoy are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, RGIII, and Russell Wilson. My passion is Favre rookie cards and vintage cards.

I want to say I read somewhere that since these were released before the draft that topps decided to make "educated" guesses as to where players were going to be drafted. As far as ive seen, every card from that set is wrong.
    -Brady

Looking for mainly Cowboys, Andy Dalton

WOW!! I've contacted my daughters boyfriend at 1:45am this morning and asked if he's ever seen or heard of anything with a Jones Rookie and a Rams patch! He was dumbfounded by it. Yes, I'm insane!! Contacting people after midnight. But, hey, they are young adults and I know their up late on the weekends!

I definitely am gratefull for your information. And educated guess? LOL!!!

Topps would have done a better job utilizing a fortune teller with a crystal ball!

      Thanks again!

That's the result when Topps has competition; they're in a hurry to get their product out before their competitors and mistakes are made. Those kind of mistakes devalue the cards, in my opinion. Julio Jones is a good player, but how many Falcons fans want a card of Jones with a Rams patch on it? It really narrows it down to someone who collects Jones or maybe a master set collector.

I definitely agree. I did check into these patch cards on eBay. They seem to full of these errors. I've found A.J. Green with a Browns patch and Cam Newton with a Redskins patch! LOL!

Here is a update! I utilized eBay to search these error or incorrect cards. Lo and behold, here it is. The funniest one that made me laugh was the Cam Newton Rookie card with a Washington Redskins Team Logo Patch. So lets say that the patch card is correct, I wonder how good the Redskins would be with Cam Newton and RGIII? Then I would wonder who is the starter and who is the back up? I wouldn't care, both QB'S on the same team would have been fantastic!

            <a href="http://s1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/hayn0824/?action=view&current=b3ec08b40d85a7c71bf414204caf2 818_zps90ef35e1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/hayn0824/b3ec08b40d85a7c71bf414204caf2818_zps90ef35e1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos" /></a>

I wonder if A.J. Green actually ended up with the Browns with Brandon Weedon as the quarterback, would he be effective as he is with Andy Dalton as quarterback in Cincinatti? LOL!!!!!

The card collector album slipped my mind when editing the photos from the 2007 Score and the 2011 Topps. Collecting cards of your favorite sport and or non-sport products make this hobby a fun and exciting project to work on. One of the most overlooked and pertinent items that are essential to this hobby are your collecting supplies to protect your most cherished items and cards that are your long term or short term investment. From basic penny sleeves, various sized top loaders, to the now industry standard one touch magnetic acrylic cases.

Here is my very first card collector album. I must admit, it is not as sturdy and does not provide the best solution in protecting your cards. By far, it is one of the most cost effective items and a very space saving product! With that in mind, the album is easily a rewarding way of showing off your collection!

I did not realize this problem until I had purchased some individual packs to add in my album. I had organized my cards in sequentially numbered order, when I was ready to add my newly purchased packs of cards, I was horrified! My job was to remove every single card and place the new cards and current cards in numbered order, then all the cards needed to be placed back in the order specified! Every thing in the world has it's pros and cons.

Hey bud, so, as weird as this might sound, I would love a shot at that Matt Gutierrez Score Rookie. I don't think I have one of those.

As for the Rising Rookies, yeah, they totally screwed up every card in that set. I pulled a JJ Watt card with a Pats patch on it, and I think the Nate Solder one had a Vikings patch on it. I actually considered swapping them since I had both. But, I have a small error type collection of Pats cards which is kind of unique. I have a Brady card which has someone else's name on it as well. Somewhere. So, if you like Julio Jones, keep it and it can be a nice conversation piece in your collection!

You have great stories my friend. Love to read your threads.

I will tell you what bud, I don't think I have any of those Pats cards. They look different. I am guessing that they are because they came out of the Factory set. So, are you sure you would want to split that thing up? No biggie if not bud.

Collecting any Boston Sports (base, insert,GU,Auto) All Teams (Red Sox,Celtics,Patriots,Bruins)
                          Also collect UNH Football/Hockey cards
Also now collecting any cards including all dupes of all the following :

NFL : Kendall Reyes (Chargers), Greg Landry (Lions), David Ball (Bears), Jerry Azumah (Bears), Dwayne Sabb (Patriots), Dan Kreider (Steelers), Ricky Santos (no pro cards)
                          NBA : Matt Bonner (Spurs)

Sure of course! It's not like that this is a complete set? If you noticed I actually don't even have the main Patriot! Tom Brady! I don't even have my idol of all time Brett Favre. So I got no problem sending you the Patriot partial set.

If this was in line with the 2012 Topps Complete 440 card set, then I would request that you not ask me to split my complete set up. I would politely inform you to purchase your own 2012 complete set at your local Walmart! LOL!!!!
