  • Newly Acquired Items

    For 5/29/14 forum members,

I picked up some interesting and unique items during the last week or so. My theory is this, you can only open so many hobby boxes. At least that's the case for my personal collection. Forum members know, I live off of all 2012 products. As they say; "Too much is not always a good thing, moderation in times is the best direction"! So I ventured forth and thought about what was unique as well as an item I do not have in my collection.

Every time I saw an item via eBay, I hit the watching tab only to wait a few days prior to any purchases. I asked myself first and foremost; "Is this going to make money"? Now now, I haven't changed my mantra of I collect to collect. Although I am not an idiot, (Mrs. Toshi says otherwise) I do understand that once I pass on, it would be nice for my heirs to not only have a momento, but to have a momento of value. My other question to myself is what can I buy at this price? My final comment is is there a much more valuable or unique item at the same price?

My first item is a 1996 Ted Williams Johnny Unitas card valued at $0.75. In this instance, my newly acquired card falls under the catergory of a TTM. I am attempting to start a TTM collection, this is my first. The only difference is that since the passing of Johnny Unitas, I had to purchase a card prior to his death with his auto. I've always wanted to own a Unitas auto as he is the best quarterback to ever play the game and the fact that his penmanship is one of the most artistic styles out there among athletes. My finale will include that this card be sent in to Beckett for authetification purposes. If authentic, this $0.75 card could be correctly estimated between a low of $150.00 to a high of $200.00. I can only be patient and see this come to fruition.

I also received this card as a bonus, if I'm correctly reading my Beckett catalog, it's like deciphering the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hamadi, this is a $28.00 card. My total expense for these two items? $35.00. Not bad at all! This card is numbered 40/50.

This next card is not only a first rookie card of this athlete, but a first PSA certified item. Wow, so can you tell I'm new at this? LOL!

This card is in my top 20 favorites in my collection. It's a 1998 Pacific Crown Royale Rookie Card Peyton Manning PSA 9. Purchased price? $24.00, I've seen this card certified by PSA at 7 and 8 that sells for $75.00 plus dollars respectively. Can I possibly push it to the $100.00 mark? I'm confident I can. I'm also confident that this card will only rise in value over the next several months if the Broncos can repeat their 2013 season with one change, to win the dam Super Bowl as this past Super Bowl between the Broncos and the Seahawks was a disaster. It was one of the worst Super Bowls and very boring as well. To add insult to injury, the broncos looked like a high school football team. Let's hope this changes for 2014!

    Thank you,
    Toshi

      Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr.

My number one active quarterback! Last year, I fell in love with a set from 2011 called Gold Standard, a Panini product. All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth. Wait a minute, wrong decade. All I wanted was these beautiful base cards and one card with the auto and a piece of 14 Carat Gold. I would wish for a Jim Brown, Joe Namath, Kaepernick, Dalton, or one with the diamonds imbedded

In the end I decided to just purchase these cards on the secondary market. I did well as this card was purchased for $99.00. What? No! It was $0.99.

This last card is a 2011 Panini Gold Standard Tom Brady 232/299.

I'm waiting on two more cards, once they arrive, I'll showcase these last 2 purchases for the month of May.

      Here is my final card.

      Thank you,

      Toshi

nice adds! Good luck on the auto. I'm not sure if Beckett verifies autos anymore. You may look at PSA/DNA or JSA to get the sig verified. Those seem to be the two top dogs in auto authentication.

Nice add's toshi, the Johnny Unitas cards are a must for anyone's collection. I have still yet to send out my 1961 topps scratch back Johnny U card to be graded but I plan on it as a investment standpoint. The manning/brady are also very nice and for those prices why not right. I always look forward to your post because its not only showcasing some nice cards but always a story along with it

Yes, Beckett does authenticate autos. I just joined Beckett's OPG yesterday. I'm loving it as I'm also utilizing their first 2000 free cards to catalog my collection. When I reach my limit, I have no problem paying the extra amount. It's 10x's better than "Sportscard Album". I've noticed "Sportscard Album" is constantly shut down for upgrades. In general, that's not a good thing.

I will utilize PSA/DNA for older vintage cards. Thank you for the info!

Oh yes, that's a true fact of Johnny Unitas! Yes, I've always wanted a rookie card of Peyton Manning. Your comment is spot on, at these prices, why not. Due to my situation having been retired, I'm able to take the time needed and search for deals like this. My next card is a Tom Brady rookie card and also including TTM autos of Brady and Manning. Good luck on your Unitas card!

Telling stories has been something we humans have been doing since the beginning of time, it's been passed down generations after generations. I'm so happy and joyous that forum members like you enjoy my color commentary, it's my way of reaching out to members like you in a personable way.

                      To Whitney777,

I sent out the Peyton Manning cards. As I mentioned prior, if I get a TTM from Manning, great. If not, no big deal as I'm positive that the item/cards sent as well as the monetary donation will help children in need.

It's our obligation and dedication to continue to give to the needy! It's the correct thing to do. We can't keep taking and taking, at some point, either Christian, Buddhists, Hindu, Muslim, or any other religion one follows, we must utilize our humanity to make a conscience decision in helping our fellow man as well as kindred spirits. Ultimately, whatever is unconditionally given, this act returns ten fold. The same holds true for giving negative issues and concerns, this will also return to ones psyche ten fold. Positive thoughts and actions will bring us all together, just like "Card Collectors World", where forum members continue to reach out. That's why this is the worlds greatest site hands down!

Thank you for your support in the TTM genre. I'm really excited as well as enjoying this new way of collecting. This is a great addition to my ever growing personal football card collection.

I have two more cards arriving for my purchases in the month of May. They are as follows, a eTopps Johnny Unitas and a Pacific Tom Brady Rookie Card. Once these two final cards arrive, rest assured I'll post them on "Showcase your card(s).
