  • A big surprise in a retail product.

    To my fellow forum members,

Recently, there was a special on eBay. It was, purchase three seperate items for $20.00 or more and eBay will place $20.00 back into your Paypal account. Well, Mrs. Toshi said; "If you want to get cards, take advantage of this special offer". You can imagine that I jumped at the chance.

The first item purchased is a 2012 Topps Complete set. This set is the retail product that includes a special promotional item. You either get a RGIII Rookie Patch card or a Andrew Luck Rookie Patch card. The second item is 8 packs totaling 200 Ultra Pro Gold Letter Rookie Top Loaders. I'm sure that you members are wondering why these items are in "Football Showcase".

As I opened the factory set to get my special RGIII Rookie Patch card, I went over each and every card. What I found was two 2012 Topps Rookie Card Andrew Luck #140. Why two? I didn't understand this until I carefully viewed both of them side by side. There, in my hand was a #140D "Twisting" variation SP of Andrew Luck. You can bet I was extremely excited by this as I'm a huge Andrew Luck fan.

I will admit that 8 packs rookie top loaders are not very exciting at all. I'm sure that many of the veteran forum members here on CCW know how much I preach about proper collecting supplies, this is such an important factor to any hobby. "The right tools for the job" is ever so true especially, when it comes to a member pulling a prized RPA, only to toss it aside in a shoebox. That my forum members is blasphemous in the eyes of football card collectors.

The final item should arrive early next week, upon it's arrival, you can count on me to showcase the product. Until then, happy collecting!

    Toshi

Surprise surprise, I don't understand why I keep finding SP's in this complete set. I'm not complaining, that's for sure, I'm just shock as the complete card set from the 2012 box clearly states it contains 440 cards. So far I've found 4 total extra card SP's plus the base cards of each sort prints for a total of 444. Keep in touch with this thread, together we will see what's up next. If there is a next.

              Hey Toshi,
Sorry to be the barer of bad news. These are still great variations, especially the Luck. However these are the factory set insert variations.

For example, the difference for Luck:
#120A, regular card, considered RC, passing sideways $20 BV
#120B, passing forward with rabbit foot, SP, $250 BV
#120C, scrambling pose, SP, $120 BV
#120D, twisting passing pose, factory set insert, not listed as SP, $25 BV

Yours is the #120D. Still a great card, covered the cost of the whole set.

              Please don't shoot the messenger,
              Rob
I collect Andre Johnson, Redskins from the 70’s & 80’s, HOF’ers and Texas A&M Aggies
(Manziel, Mike Evans, Jake Matthews, Ryan Swope, Sean Porter, Luke Joeckel, Damontre Moore, Ryan Tannehill, Cyrus Gray, Jeff Fuller, Martellus Bennett, Stephen McGee, Goodson, Jerrod Johnson, V. Miller, Acie Law, DeAndre Jordan, Antoine Wright, Justin Ruggiano, etc.).

Thank so much for the info! You are correct that the cost of the complete set was offset by the Luck card. This still makes me happy, plus, I've always wanted this set in particular.

Now I have to find the 2012 Topps 3 Ring Binder Album that matches this set. It was on the Topps website, but they're sold out. Now I have to check the secondary market. So far there are none in Amazon and eBay. Oh well, the search continues.
