Ummm because the pitcher would pitch the very 1st day they are available to pitch...

They would just say oh, i'm pitching April 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th... That's why for pitcher's it has to be 5 games... They can pitch any day.

you suspend him for 1 day he pitches the second game
you suspend him for 2 days he pitches the third game
you suspend him for 3 days he pitches the fourth day
you suspend him for 4 days he pitches the fifth day
you suspend him for 5 days he pitches the sixth day

5 day suspension, he just worked himself out of the rotation

4 day suspension, he gets the last spot in the rotation
