ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Greg Schiano from Rutgers will be the Buccaneers' next head coach once a contract is finalized.
The Bucs' three finalists were Panthers OC Rob Chudzinski, fired Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman, and Schiano. Schiano's name was kept quiet leading up to National Signing Day on February 1. The Bucs are trying to take a page out of the 49ers' book with this college-to-pros hire. Schiano, only 45, impressively brought the Rutgers football program out of the depths into a Big East power, although the Scarlet Knights have been hardly dominant since an 11-2 season in 2006. His offenses at Rutgers were always smash-mouth, run-first attacks with heavy usage of running back committees. We'll find out more about Schiano's plans for the Buccaneers at a forthcoming press conference.
