  • Product Ranker Panini, Topps

We have been doing breaks for quite some time now and have also been collecting for 30 years. I have a question because even I am not sure anymore of the answers.
Can someone on here post how you would rank Panini and Topps Football 2013 products from lowest end to high end. Example Topps Regular, then starts, chrome, finest....Or whatever.

I would love to see everyones thoughts on both Topps and Panini

I am easy, I collect any and all NFL cards. Individual players I really enjoy are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, RGIII, and Russell Wilson. My passion is Favre rookie cards and vintage cards.

Thanks My issue is usually in the middle between magic and finest for Topps
and for Panini between Certified and Totally Certified.

The middle lines in both companies are all so close. For instance some higher ranking products have sticker autos where some lower ranking ones have on card....

Thanks for putting the time in on that post.

I feel that Finest is a much more superior product then Magic. Magic has the history backing it up to vintage cards.

As for Certified vs Totally Certified, Totally Certifed out performs Certified as far as hits, detailed design, card stock, graphics, and a very strong secondary market. Like Magic, Certified has a long standing issue and a storied history for collectors.

Yes, there are so many factors involved as you mentioned sticker autos vs on card autos. 2012 Panini Black has a mix of this. I'm biased in Black due to the fact that Mrs. Toshi pulled a Luck a on card gold auto jersey. In the end it's really up to each individual collector in regards to one big issue, cost.

            I agree completely.
The biggest issue I have with Black much like 5 Star and National Treasures is grade ability.
Its too bad they can't come up with a better finish on BLACK that would avoid the inevitable white scuffs.

What I do like about Certified is there is no rookie base cards. everything is at least numbered to 999. There is a good value there for set collectors at that price point.

I think Toshi's pretty spot on for Topps. I'd change some for Panini though:

                Panini Score
                Panini Gridiron
                Panini R&S
                Panini Prestige
                Panini Certified
                Panini Momentum
                Panini Elite
                Panini Prizm
                Panini Prominence
                Panini Select
                Panini Prime Sigs
                Panini Crown Royale
                Panini Totally Cert
                Panini Absolute
                Panini Contenders
                Panini Black
                Panini Playbook
                Panini National Treasures

I normally buy from Prestige up through Totally Certified & the last two years, I've splurged on Contenders(hadn't been a fan in the past but the last two years have been fantastic IMO). I haven't bought anything really this year because everything I normally buy has become VERY generic. I feel like Panini has cut A LOT of corners this year to push out more product. They took away the characteristics that made each product unique(removing the Phenoms die cut in Limited, Rookie die cut in TC, etc.) Everything is extremely cookie cutter & it turned me off on busting boxes. Certified has always been one of my favorite products & I skipped it totally this year. FOTG looks like Freshman Fabric & that looks like the totally certified hits which look like momentum. Select looks like Prizm which looks like Chrome, etc. The innovative products that have come out the last two years(strata clear cut relics, Playbook, black) are over done this year with too many parallels that make what was unique now plain and over done. Sticker autos don't bother me as long as the auto stays on the sticker but that's technically up to the player.

this won't happen, but i'd like to see both companies cut back & maybe do one a couple sets in each price point. It wouldn't flood the market so bad & allow people to have some fun chasing down cards they need. This is how I'd do it:
                Topps
                Low End:
                Topps base
                Topps Magic or Strata

                Mid End:
                Chrome
                Platinum
                Inception

                High End:
                5 Star
                Finest
                Triple Threads

                Panini:
                low
                Prestige
                Score-maybe
                Certified

                mid:
                Crown Royale
Limited-old design, not the crap from this year
                Totally Certified

                High
                Contenders
                Black or Playbook(or combine them!)
                Nat Treasures
                -Brady

Looking for mainly Cowboys, Andy Dalton

With Panini I just can't bring myself to put contenders up there as a high end. No patches or extremely unique cards. Just variable finishes on practically the same card and short prints. Obviously the rookie values are good in the product. But to me its no better than totally certified. Definitely pull much more unique cards out of a lot of other things.

Its nice to see everyone opinions on product quality. I have been breaking combos of lets say 1 box prizm 1 box momentum. They make for really fun breaks. I was looking to get the general opinion on product rankings so that I could mix and match these breaks better.
